Introducing SmashCut 1.0
SmashCut 1.0 is here. It is a free desktop video editor for macOS and Windows, and it ships with something we have wanted for a long time: a local MCP server, so the coding agent you already use can edit video with you.
The editor stands on its own. Multi-track timeline, keyframes, color tools, per-word captions, SRT and VTT export. You can cut a whole project without ever opening a terminal. Everything runs on your machine, and your footage stays there — we never train on it.
Agents in the timeline
Connect Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, or Codex, and your agent gets the same editing tools the UI uses. Ask it to tighten a cut, restyle captions, or rebuild a sequence at 9:16 — it works in your open project, live on the timeline.
Every agent edit is attributed, and every agent edit is undoable. An agent can undo its own work, never yours. You always know who cut what, and you can always take it back.
From recording to shorts
The workflow we use most: hand SmashCut a long recording and get back captioned vertical shorts. Transcript-driven cutting finds the moments, per-word captions style themselves, and batch export ships every clip with TikTok, Reels, and Shorts presets in one pass. Bundled agent playbooks run the whole pipeline from a single prompt.
The editor is free, full stop. Pro is $29/mo and adds unlimited MCP credits for heavy agent use. Enterprise is custom — talk to us.
Download SmashCut for macOS or Windows and make your first cut today. We will be in the timeline.
